Joseph S. Riggle, 55, was found dead in bed Saturday evening and his sister, Mrs. Rhoda Ellen Shackelford, 63, died about 24 hours later on Sunday. Mr. Riggle had visited his sister Saturday afternoon and returned home, not feeling well. Mrs. Shackelford was unconscious at the time of her brothers death and never learned of his passing. Mr. Riggle was born near here June 7, 1883, and Mrs. Shackelford was born near here, January 21, 1875, children of Spencer and Elizabeth Steward Riggle. Mrs. Shackelford married November 5, 1890 to Thomas Shackelford who survives. Mr. Riggle married September 5, 1908 to Perle Skelton, who also survives, together with three sons; Donald Clayton of Baton Rouge, Louiziana, Marvin Howard of Port Arthur, Texas, and Joseph Spencer at home and two daughters, Mrs. Mary Augusta Secrist of Indianapolis, and Miss Katharine Jeannette at home. Mr. Riggle and Mrs. Shackelford are also survived by four brothers; George of near Ladoga, Moses of near here, Noah of Miami, Florida, and Henry of Danville, and three sisters; Mrs. Mary Young of Bainbridge, Mrs. Angeline Obenchain of near here and Mrs. Susie Perkins of New Winchester. Funeral services for Mrs. Shackelford, were held Wednesday morning at the home here, with burial in New Maysville cemetery. Funeral services for Mr. Riggle, were held Wednesday afternoon at Chastain funeral home, with burial in Roachdale cemetery. Joseph was the 12th child, grew to manhood along with his brothers and sisters on the old Riggle homestead in Franklin township, Putnam County
